I will be hosting a local author talk at Grand Rapids' own "proudly progressive, consciously curated, and fiercely independent" bookstore, Books & Mortar, at the beginning of next month as a part of the community's First Fridays event series.
All the details are in the flyer above and in the newly minted "events" page accessible from the top menu, so I'll just write here my thanks to Maggie and Jess for coordinating and hosting my debut speaking event as an author! If you're local to Grand Rapids, or if you're just passing through, be sure to visit Books & Mortar on Cherry Street, and if you're not local check out www.booksandmortar.com, where orders can be shipped. As an independent author I want to do all I can throughout my career to support independent, small-to-medium-sized businesses in all areas of the industry, and work to publicize ways for writers and readers to bypass the ruts carved out by profit-driven behemoths like Amazon, since those very often, through a culling of imagination, lead to creative, cultural, and economical dead-ends in a society. An easy way to start is by directly supporting independent booksellers, and I'm grateful for this chance to do my part.
So come check out the show! No need to RSVP or worry about tickets. Just find a place to park and walk on in at 6pm, Friday May 2nd, at Books and Mortar.
